US tests Ukraine's long-range drones for military applications
The U.S. military will test Ukraine's long-range drones for the first time as part of the Artemis project. This initiative aims to evaluate unmanned aerial systems in challenging environments, focusing on low-cost, adaptable technology for military use. The Defense Innovation Unit has awarded contracts to four companies, including U.S. firms collaborating with Ukrainian manufacturers. The goal is to develop effective drone prototypes by the end of Fiscal Year 2025, with features for rapid launch and operation in disrupted conditions. Ukrainian firms recently showcased their drones at the Consumer Electronics Show, highlighting their impact in the conflict with Russia. Drones like the Shrike and Vampire have successfully targeted Russian military assets, demonstrating their dual role in combat and humanitarian missions.
