US warns Turkey against sheltering Hamas leaders
The United States has warned Turkey against providing shelter to Hamas leaders. U.S. officials stated that leaders of a terrorist organization should not live comfortably, especially in a major city of a key ally. Matthew Miller, a U.S. State Department spokesperson, did not confirm reports of Hamas leaders moving from Qatar to Turkey but indicated that the U.S. would communicate its concerns to Turkey. He emphasized that some Hamas leaders are indicted in the U.S. and should be extradited. A Turkish diplomatic source denied claims that Hamas has moved its political office to Turkey, stating that members only visit occasionally. Turkey, a NATO member, has criticized Israel's actions in Gaza and does not classify Hamas as a terrorist organization.
