USA Track & Field coach suspended after positive tests
Gerald Phiri, a coach for USA Track & Field, has been suspended after three athletes he trains tested positive for a banned substance known as cardarine. This decision comes from the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) as part of an investigation in collaboration with the United States Anti-Doping Agency. Phiri, who is originally from Zambia and is a former Olympic sprinter, faces serious allegations. The AIU claims he has a history of doping violations. These include possessing cardarine during his own athletic career in 2018 and 2019. Additionally, he is accused of having meldonium in 2024 while serving as an athlete support person. The suspension took effect on March 17, 2025. Phiri has the option to submit a written request to the AIU to have his suspension lifted.
