USC faces UNC Greensboro in NCAA women's tournament
The NCAA women's basketball tournament kicks off with a first-round game featuring USC and UNC Greensboro on Saturday. USC holds the No. 1 seed in the tournament for the second consecutive year. They hope for a better outcome than last year's Elite Eight loss to Connecticut. USC is aiming for its third national championship title, having previously won in 1983 and 1984. Their first opponent is No. 16 seed UNC Greensboro. This will be the first matchup between the two teams. Fans can watch the game at noon on ABC. Those in Los Angeles can also attend the game at Galen Center, where tickets are available for $25. This ticket also grants access to a later game featuring No. 8 California against No. 9 Mississippi State. USC, with a record of 28-3 overall and 17-1 in the Big Ten, finished as the top team in their conference. They lost in the Big Ten tournament finals to UCLA. If both USC and UCLA advance far enough, they could meet again in the Final Four. The star player for USC is JuJu Watkins, who is a two-time first-team All-American and the Big Ten player of the year. She scores an average of 24.6 points per game. Senior Kiki Iriafen and senior Rayah Marshall also play key roles on the team. UNC Greensboro has a record of 25-6, having won their conference tournament. Jayde Gamble is the leading scorer for the Spartans with an average of 11.8 points per game.
