Usha Vance becomes Second Lady as husband JD Vance takes office as Vice President
Usha Chilukuri Vance, 38, is the wife of new Vice President JD Vance and the first woman of Indian descent to become Second Lady of the United States. She is a highly educated lawyer and a former Gates Scholar. Previously a registered Democrat, Usha and JD Vance have shifted to the Republican Party. Usha has expressed reluctance about the political spotlight but supports her husband and is open to the changes ahead. Usha has a strong academic background, having attended Yale and Cambridge, and has never received a grade lower than an A. She is also a mother of three and has recently left her law firm to focus on her new role.
