UT-Austin president Jay Hartzell to take over at Southern Methodist University
Jay Hartzell, president of the University of Texas at Austin since 2020, will leave to become the next president of Southern Methodist University. His installation is tentatively set for next fall. Hartzell's departure follows R. Gerald Turner's announcement to transition to president emeritus after leading SMU for 30 years. It is unclear who will lead UT-Austin in the interim. Hartzell has been a faculty member at UT-Austin since 2001 and previously served as dean of the McCombs School of Business.
