Utah lawmaker Kera Birkeland resigns weeks after re-election due to family commitments
Utah State Rep. Kera Birkeland has announced her resignation from the Legislature, effective January 10, 2025. She cited family and professional commitments, particularly her mother's illness, as reasons for her decision. Birkeland, a Republican, was recently re-elected in November. She has served in the Utah Legislature since April 2020 and is known for sponsoring anti-trans legislation. Her resignation comes just before the 2025 legislative session. Utah Governor Spencer Cox will appoint a replacement from a list provided by the Republican party.
