Utah lawmakers pass bill banning pride flags statewide
Utah lawmakers have passed a bill that would ban pride flags in all public schools and government buildings, making it the first state to do so if signed by Governor Spencer Cox. The bill, HB77, was expanded from an earlier version that only targeted schools. The legislation allows only specific flags, such as the U.S. flag and state flags, to be displayed. Similar bills are being considered in other states, including Idaho, Arizona, and Alabama, but Utah's ban is the most comprehensive. Governor Cox has expressed mixed feelings about the bill, particularly regarding its application to government buildings. He has not yet signed the bill but indicated he is likely to do so.
