Utah lawmakers passed fewer bills than last year
Utah lawmakers passed 582 bills this year, falling short of last year's record of 591. Several high-profile proposals, including those to eliminate daylight saving time and allow 18-year-olds to carry loaded weapons, were voted down or ran out of time. One notable proposal aimed to make it easier for municipalities to split from Salt Lake County. This bill, introduced late in the session, was intended to spark discussion rather than pass immediately. It could return in future sessions. Another bill aimed to revert changes in how ballot questions for constitutional amendments are written. Sponsored by top legislative leaders, it passed the House but did not receive a Senate vote before the session ended.
