Utah nurse accused of murdering friend for insurance money
A nurse in Utah has been arrested for allegedly killing her friend to benefit from a life insurance policy. Meggan Randall Sundwall, 47, is accused of plotting for years to convince Kacee Lyn Terry, 38, that she had cancer. Terry died on August 15 after being found unconscious at her home in Highland. An autopsy revealed she died from an overdose of insulin and a sedative called promethazine, despite having no diabetes. Police say Sundwall knew that giving insulin to a non-diabetic person could be fatal. Evidence suggests Sundwall had financial problems and wanted to collect on a life insurance policy worth about $1.5 million, which she believed listed her as a beneficiary. Investigators found over 28,000 text messages between the two women. These messages included discussions about Sundwall's desire for Terry to die, which would solve her financial troubles. On the day of Terry's collapse, Sundwall texted her asking if she wanted to take promethazine to sleep through the event. Sundwall was the only person with Terry for most of the day. Terry's family initially believed she was seriously ill but later learned she was healthy and had no cancer. Sundwall is currently held in jail, but it is unclear if she has legal representation. Authorities have found no documents showing Sundwall had power of attorney or any official proof of the life insurance claim.
