Uttar Pradesh enhances medical education and healthcare infrastructure
Uttar Pradesh has made significant progress in healthcare and medical education, according to a recent government statement. This announcement comes as the ruling BJP party approaches its eight-year mark in the state. The state has seen an increase in medical colleges and available seats for MBBS and postgraduate studies. Establishing new super-speciality hospitals and research centers has also opened opportunities for many young people. Medical colleges have been set up in places like Maharajganj, Shamli, and Sambhal through a public-private partnership model. Currently, there are 5,250 MBBS seats in government institutions and 6,550 in private ones. Additionally, 350 new seats were created in three new medical colleges under this model. The number of postgraduate seats has increased substantially as well. The government sector now offers 1,871 MD/MS/Diploma seats, while private institutions have 2,100. There are also 250 new seats in super-speciality courses, enhancing the state's medical education landscape. Moreover, new medical colleges for Ayurveda and homeopathy have been established, alongside various hospitals in these fields. There are now 2,110 Ayurvedic, 254 Unani, and 1,585 Homeopathic hospitals operating in the state. A new center focused on cancer research has opened at the Kalyan Singh Super Specialty Cancer Institute in Lucknow. This aims to improve healthcare services further. Additionally, IIT-Kanpur plans to build a School of Medical Research and Technology and a new super-speciality hospital to foster innovation in healthcare. Construction is also underway for nursing colleges across the state, with nursing and paramedical seats increasing by 7,000 and 2,000, respectively.
