Uttar Pradesh enhances Prayagraj's healthcare facilities significantly
Prayagraj: The Uttar Pradesh government has made significant improvements to health care services in Prayagraj over the past eight years. New projects and schemes have enhanced medical facilities in the region, benefiting many residents. Dr. Vatsala Mishra, Principal of Motilal Nehru Medical College, highlighted key developments. A new 160-bedded Super Specialty Block was built at Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital for Rs 160 crore. This facility helps patients from both Prayagraj and nearby areas. Additionally, a 250-bedded children’s hospital is almost complete and is expected to open in August. With funds from the Maha Kumbh budget totaling Rs 75 crore, new construction and equipment have improved services at the medical college. A new outpatient department (OPD) and a Central Diagnostic Center, costing Rs 9 crore, now allow patients to get all necessary tests in one location. Plans for an L1 Trauma Center have also been approved, with Rs 36 crore allocated for its construction. On average, the college handles between 3,000 to 4,000 OPDs daily, increasing access to health care for both urban and rural populations. Chief Medical Officer Dr. AK Tiwari noted the establishment of three community health centers (CHCs) and a 100-bed hospital in Bhagwatpur during this time. Furthermore, 551 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs provide essential health services, including telemedicine, which allows remote consultations with specialists. Twelve Health ATMs are also being set up, offering various tests in one place. The district has issued over 1.3 million golden cards under the Ayushman Bharat scheme to eligible beneficiaries, further expanding health care access in the community.
