Uttar Pradesh police increase surveillance at religious events
Uttar Pradesh's Director General of Police, Prashant Kumar, has ordered all district police departments to monitor religious events. This follows reports that criminals are using these gatherings to hide from the police after committing crimes. The police have noticed that after committing illegal activities, some criminals attend religious events to escape capture. This issue was highlighted during the investigation into the recent death of Inspector Sunil Kumar, who was allegedly shot by gang members. The investigation revealed that criminals often blend in with crowds at these religious gatherings. Kumar instructed police forces to enhance their intelligence systems and social media monitoring. They are to focus on identifying suspicious individuals at these events. Senior officers are advised to communicate with event organizers to ensure they collect and maintain accurate attendance records. The DGP emphasized the importance of keeping a register with details of all attendees, including photo IDs and Aadhaar cards. Officers should regularly check these records to spot any potential criminal activity. Monthly inspections by senior officers will also be required to ensure compliance and take appropriate legal action if necessary.
