Uttar Pradesh workshop emphasizes strict legal action against trafficking
Lucknow hosted a two-day workshop focused on improving anti-human trafficking units (AHTUs). The event took place at Avadh Shilpgram and was organized by the Women and Child Safety Organisation (WCSO). The workshop aimed to enhance investigative methods and strengthen legal frameworks to combat human trafficking. WCSO Superintendent Vrinda Shukla emphasized that strict legal action is essential to dismantle trafficking networks. She urged police to investigate every suspected case thoroughly to ensure that criminals face justice. Victims of trafficking may show signs of fear, anxiety, or depression. Visible injuries, such as scars or bruises, and behaviors like hesitation in revealing personal information are important warning signs. Shukla encouraged citizens to report any suspicious activities to the police or anti-human trafficking helplines. The workshop also focused on rehabilitation for survivors, including safe shelters, medical help, psychological support, and skill development programs. To support law enforcement, the WCSO introduced awareness posters containing FIR checklists and legal guidelines. Key speakers included legal expert KA Pandey and immigration officer Mukesh Kumar, who discussed relevant laws and illegal migration issues. ADG Padmaja Chauhan stated that since 2020, Uttar Pradesh has been enhancing AHTUs, with all 75 districts now having specialized teams. She announced plans for more workshops to improve police effectiveness in fighting trafficking. The event attracted over 250 participants, including police officials, border security representatives, and child helpline members.
