Uttarakhand mandates Hindu calendar dates in government notifications

timesofindia.indiatimes.com

Uttarakhand's Chief Minister, Pushkar Singh Dhami, has announced that all government notifications must now include dates from the Hindu calendar. This change is aimed at highlighting India's cultural heritage, according to an official statement. From now on, dates like March 18, 2025, will also show corresponding Hindu calendar details. For example, this date will be noted as Chaitra Shukla Chaturthi, Vikram Samvat 2082, Saka Samvat 1946, and Phalguna 27. Dhami emphasized the importance of the Vikram Samvat in Indian traditions. He has instructed the chief secretary to ensure that all future government documents, including foundation stones and inauguration plaques, feature both the Hindu calendar and its months. On a related note, earlier on Monday, CM Dhami launched the 'Drugs Free Uttarakhand' motorcycle rally, organized by the Adarsh Industrial Autonomy Cooperative Society in Doiwala, Dehradun.
