economictimes.indiatimes.com

The Uttarakhand Waqf Board has announced it will distribute free food kits and children's clothes to poor Muslims during Eid. These kits, named 'Modi-Dhami', will include items like milk, rice, sugar, vermicelli, and dry fruits. The chairman of the board, Shadab Shams, confirmed this during their first online meeting. In addition to the food kits, the board will also provide free clothes for children. This initiative aims to support those in need during the festive season. To address property management, the board plans to charge market rates for tenants using Waqf properties for commercial purposes. Currently, tenants are paying between Rs 100 and Rs 150, while these properties are worth much more. The board hopes to use the increased rent to benefit the poor. Moreover, a state-level Waqf Tribunal will be established soon to handle cases of encroachment on Waqf properties. After Eid, the board intends to take action against illegal occupants who unfairly profit from Waqf facilities.
