VA cancels transgender health care policy for veterans
The Department of Veterans Affairs has rescinded its 2018 policy that allowed transgender-related health care services for veterans. This change aligns with a directive from the Trump administration that emphasizes a binary understanding of sex. Under the new guidance, the VA will not provide gender-affirming surgeries or cover cosmetic procedures. It will conduct a review of care for transgender veterans but maintains that existing clinical guidance remains unaffected. The VA will also enforce sex-segregated spaces based on biological sex and has updated signage related to gender identity. This move follows Trump's executive order, which restricts federal definitions of sex to male and female only.
