Vaccination reduces flu-related deaths in older adults

Experts say that getting vaccinated against pneumonia and influenza can significantly reduce deaths from respiratory infections, especially for people over 50 years old. This message was shared at the 'RESPICRIT 2025' medical education program held in Lucknow. The event was organized by Sanjivini Super Speciality Hospital and attracted over 300 medical professionals from various parts of India. They discussed the latest advancements in respiratory medicine, critical care, and sleep medicine. Dr. SN Gupta, the founder of the event, pointed out a troubling trend. He noted that many people are hesitant to invest in preventive healthcare. Instead, they often spend money on unhealthy habits like smoking and eating junk food. He highlighted the costs of vaccines. The pneumonia vaccine costs around Rs3,500 and requires two doses spaced one year apart. The influenza vaccine, which is needed each year, costs between Rs1,000 and Rs1,300.
