Valentina Gomez's post on executions limited for violence
Texas Republican congressional candidate Valentina Gomez has had a controversial post limited on X due to concerns over violent speech. In her post, she suggested that executions could be a cheaper alternative to deportations. This was accompanied by an image of her shooting a dummy tied to a chair. Gomez made this statement in response to Vice President JD Vance, who defended the White House's decision to defy a judge's order about deporting alleged Venezuelan gang members. Vance highlighted that some people being deported were violent criminals. The image stemmed from a video Gomez released in December, where she called for "public executions for any illegal that rapes or kills an American." Gomez, who gained attention for her inflammatory remarks during a prior campaign, lost the Republican primary for Missouri secretary of state in August. She later announced her run for Congress. Her social media activity has drawn criticism before. Meta removed her from Instagram last September, and she has faced restrictions on X for prior posts as well. Currently, X has limited the visibility of her latest post, marking it with a tag that indicates it may violate rules against violent speech. Users can no longer like, share, or save the post. These restrictions were applied two days after the post was originally shared and had already received millions of views. A Community Note on the post stated that it violated X’s policy against wishing harm on others.
