Valerie Lee joins PAP candidates at Pasir Ris event

On March 22, new face of the People's Action Party (PAP), Ms. Valerie Lee, attended a job fair at Downtown East in Singapore. Her presence fueled speculation that she could be a candidate for the upcoming Pasir Ris-Changi Group Representation Constituency (GRC). Mr. Desmond Tan, a Senior Minister of State, mentioned that Ms. Lee was invited to the event. He noted that the final team for the GRC will be decided by Prime Minister Lawrence Wong. The new Pasir Ris-Changi GRC will include three existing MPs and is expected to add one new representative. Ms. Lee currently works at Sembcorp in corporate affairs. She has also been associated with West Coast GRC and East Coast GRC in the past. At the event, she was seen engaging with residents and taking photos with other MPs, including Senior Minister Teo Chee Hean. The Electoral Boundaries Review Committee recently split the former Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC into two separate constituencies. The new Punggol GRC will have different sitting MPs as well. The job fair featured over 1,200 job openings from more than 20 employers. Additionally, a new initiative was announced to help job seekers in North-East Singapore. Interactive kiosks with AI interviewers and resume builders will be placed in community clubs. Mr. Tan highlighted a trend of mid-career professionals seeking help for job changes. He emphasized the importance of embracing technology in today’s job market, whether for fresh graduates or for seasoned workers adapting to new tools. No specific launch date for the new initiative has been announced yet.
