Valerie Lee joins PAP team for Pasir Ris-Changi GRC

Valerie Lee, a new face from the People's Action Party (PAP), attended a job fair on March 22 at Downtown East. This has led to speculation about her potential candidacy in the upcoming elections for the newly formed Pasir Ris-Changi Group Representation Constituency (GRC). Senior Minister Desmond Tan, who leads the Pasir Ris Central ward, mentioned that Ms. Lee was invited by the PAP team. The final team composition will be decided by Prime Minister Lawrence Wong. Mr. Tan noted the need for a new candidate in the four-man GRC. Ms. Lee works at Sembcorp and has been seen previously in West Coast and East Coast GRCs. At the job fair, she was introduced to residents by sitting MPs and was often photographed with Senior Minister Teo Chee Hean. Ms. Lee did not comment on her political future but expressed happiness at being present. The recent Electoral Boundaries Review Committee chose to split the former Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC into the new Punggol GRC and Pasir Ris-Changi GRC. The new Pasir Ris-Changi GRC includes the wards of three sitting MPs, while the other MPs will now belong to Punggol GRC. The event highlighted a new initiative to assist job seekers in North-East Singapore, featuring interactive kiosks with AI interviewers and resume builders. This project is a collaboration between various organizations and aims to help job seekers with generative AI tools. Mr. Tan noted an increase in professionals seeking mid-career changes. He emphasized the importance of adapting to technology in today’s job market.
