Valve's rating misleads Steam Deck users on compatibility
Valve, a well-known company in gaming, is facing criticism from some Steam Deck users. They have labeled the popular game, GTA V Enhanced, as "Playable" on their platform, which many players find confusing. GTA V Enhanced is the upgraded version of the game by Rockstar Games. Valve’s definition of "Playable" suggests that players might need to tweak settings or use the touchscreen for certain functions. While some other games with minor issues have this label, GTA V has a major problem. Players cannot access GTA Online on the Steam Deck at all. This issue started last year when Rockstar added an anti-cheat system called BattlEye. Unfortunately, this system does not support Linux, which is the operating system used by Steam Deck. Users can only play the story mode of GTA V and not the multiplayer online environment, which is a big part of the game. Despite these significant limitations, Valve still considers the game compatible with Steam Deck. Critics argue this misleads players looking for a complete gaming experience. They suggest that Valve should rethink its Deck Verified program to avoid confusing gamers further. Valve has not yet responded to these concerns, as their PR team is attending a conference this week. For now, players should keep in mind that only the story mode of GTA V Enhanced is available on the Steam Deck.
