Vicar raises alarm over sewage risk to River Roden in Shropshire
A vicar in Shropshire, Paul Cawthorne, is worried that raw sewage may overflow from a manhole into the River Roden during floods. He found toilet paper and wet wipes near the manhole, which is not monitored by Severn Trent Water. Severn Trent stated that the flooding was due to blockages from items like wet wipes and heavy rain. They believe the sewage has not reached the river and noted that flooding at this location is rare, with only one event in the past year. Cawthorne expressed concerns about water pollution and the impact on local wildlife. Severn Trent plans to invest £1.7 billion to reduce sewage spills and improve infrastructure, but Cawthorne fears this may not keep pace with local housing developments.
