Vietnamese surgeon sentenced to death for dismembering mistress
In southern Vietnam, a court in Dong Nai province has sentenced Danh Son to death for murdering his mistress. The 37-year-old, who was a surgeon, was found guilty of murder, robbery, and illegal possession of weapons. The judges described his crime as "exceptionally brutal." They noted that Son, being a doctor, understood the legal implications of his actions but chose to commit the crime anyway. The trial panel emphasized the seriousness of his actions, stating they endangered lives and showed a complete disregard for the law. In the case, Son's wife offered 100 million dong, equivalent to about $3,900, as compensation to the victim's family. However, this offer was rejected and not considered when deciding his punishment. The court's decision reflects a commitment to strict penalties for such severe crimes in Vietnam.
