Vikings enhance offensive line with Colts' Ryan Kelly, Will Fries
Newly signed Vikings offensive linemen Ryan Kelly and Will Fries, former teammates at the Colts, are excited to reunite in Minnesota. They praised each other's skills and talked about the importance of teamwork on the offensive line. Kelly, a center with nine years of experience, was surprised when Fries called to confirm he had also joined the Vikings. He described the unusual situation as “it doesn’t happen in free agency.” Both players are seen as key additions to a revamped offensive line, which now also includes tackle Justin Skule from the Buccaneers. Kelly noted that having previous experience with Fries will help them adjust to their new team. They need to build trust with returning veterans on the offensive line, especially tackles Brian O’Neill and Christian Darrisaw. The Vikings recently released their former starting center, Garrett Bradbury. Kelly emphasized that success on the offensive line relies on teamwork. He shared that Fries showed great work ethic during his rookie season and has now become a strong starter. Fries, who recovered from a broken leg last season, feels ready to contribute. Both players believe their shared experiences will strengthen the team's performance. Kelly's leadership skills will also support the Vikings' new quarterback, J.J. McCarthy. Kelly described McCarthy as energetic and eager to prove himself. In another development, the Vikings traded for running back Jordan Mason from the 49ers. Mason, known for his physical style of play, said he was encouraged by the Vikings staff to be himself on the field. Last season, he recorded impressive numbers for yards after contact, which highlights his ability to gain tough yards running the ball.
