Viorel Ion was sentenced for stabbing his landlord

Viorel Ion is a man from Scunthorpe who has been in the news for stabbing his landlord during a dispute. The attack took place on April 6, 2024, after an argument over an electricity meter. Ion used a large pair of scissors to stab the landlord in the neck. The confrontation began when the landlord wanted to check the electricity meter. Ion refused and accused him of stealing. As tensions rose, they both met outside, where the argument escalated. Ion threatened the landlord and demanded money, even while holding scissors. Witnesses, including a child, saw the stabbing. The landlord was seriously injured and had to be rushed to the hospital. His wound was dangerous but thankfully not lethal. Doctors said he would recover, although he still faces lingering effects from the attack. Ion was arrested after he reported to the police. Initially suspected of attempted murder, he was later charged with wounding with intent. The case is featured in a Channel 5 documentary called Police: Suspect No 1, which will air on March 24, 2025.
