Virgin Media expands free TV app access for customers
Virgin Media has announced a new deal with UKTV, allowing more customers to access free streaming services on their TV boxes. This agreement means that nearly all Virgin customers will soon be able to use the U streaming app. Currently, the U app is available to those with Virgin TV 360 or Stream boxes. However, starting this summer, it will also be accessible on Virgin TV V6 boxes. UKTV is known for its popular channels like U&Dave and U&GOLD, which feature classic British shows such as Murdoch Mysteries and Dad's Army. Along with the paid channels, Virgin customers will have access to several free channels, including U&DAVE, U&DRAMA, and U&YESTERDAY. This update comes as a relief for viewers, as many popular channels like Eurosport have recently disappeared from UK television. David Bouchier, head of Virgin TV and Entertainment, emphasized that providing the best TV content is a priority for the company. He mentioned that there are plans to add up to 50 new internet-streamed channels to Virgin's offerings in the future. As cable TV evolves, Virgin Media is also looking to improve its broadcast technology, which will allow for smaller set-top boxes and better connectivity throughout homes. The media landscape is undergoing significant changes, particularly with the rise of streaming services. Major additions and modifications in the TV market are expected in the coming years, including the anticipated launch of HBO's Max service in the UK in early 2026.
