Visakhapatnam may host ICC Women's World Cup this year
Visakhapatnam, also known as Vizag, might host the ICC Women’s World Cup later this year. Kesineni Sivanath, president of the Andhra Cricket Association (ACA), confirmed this is still just a rumor. An official announcement from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is needed to clarify the situation. Sivanath expressed that hosting the World Cup would be a significant achievement for Visakhapatnam and Andhra Pradesh. He also mentioned that the city could host a Men’s One Day International (ODI) match in December and there are efforts to bring Men’s T20 matches to Vizag as well. Currently, there are no IPL matches scheduled in Visakhapatnam. However, ACA members and local IT Minister Nara Lokesh have asked the Delhi Capitals to play a few games there. To prepare for this, the ACA quickly renovated the stadium in less than two months. They completed the first phase of renovations and will start the second phase after the IPL matches in April. Sivanath also announced plans to continue the Andhra Premier League (APL) this year to support local talent, with changes to the rules set to be discussed after the IPL season concludes. Previously, Visakhapatnam hosted one ICC Men’s World Cup match in February 1996, which featured Kenya against Australia.
