Vlogger arrested in Cebu for spreading fake news

A 30-year-old female vlogger named Wendelyn Magalso from Oslob town in Cebu has been arrested by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) for spreading fake news. The arrest happened on the evening of March 20. NBI officials presented Magalso at a press conference on March 21. Magalso allegedly posted on social media that illegal drugs had become legal, citing President Marcos in her post. She claimed to pity innocent people affected by this supposed change. The NBI discovered her post during cyber patrols and received a complaint from TV 5 about an edited post that falsely suggested new laws were being created to legalize drugs in the country. After her arrest, Magalso admitted she created the post for financial gain, noting that she earns money from views on her content. She later apologized to President Marcos for her misleading statement. Magalso has been detained and will be charged under the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012, which could result in prison time and fines.
