VMRDA allocates ₹390 crore for Bhogapuram airport roads
The Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA) plans to spend ₹390 crore to enhance road connections to the new Bhogapuram airport. This greenfield international airport is being built about 45 km from Visakhapatnam in Vizianagaram district. VMRDA Commissioner K.S. Viswanathan announced that they will develop 15 roads, totaling 75.52 km, with some new roads and scenic features. The tendering process is expected to begin in April 2025. The goal is to complete these road improvements by June 2026, coinciding with the expected opening of the airport. Key road projects include a 6.5 km stretch from Boddavalasa to the Vizianagaram Ring Road, which will expand from 9 meters to 24 meters wide. Other significant road widenings will occur on routes such as Dakamarri-Ravada and Chippada-Polipalli. Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu has stated that the airport construction is progressing well and is monitored by both state and central authorities. He mentioned that the project meets international standards and will be ready before the deadline.
