Volcanic eruptions on Flores Island kill at least six and displace thousands in Indonesia
A series of volcanic eruptions on Indonesia's Flores Island has killed at least six people, according to the National Disaster Management Agency. The eruptions from Mount Lewotobi Laki Laki sent ash 2,000 meters into the air, damaging homes and a convent.
The agency revised the death toll down from nine, as it continues to gather information on casualties and damage. The danger level for the volcano has been raised, and the exclusion zone has expanded to a 7-kilometer radius.
Around 10,000 people have been affected, with volcanic debris covering villages and forcing residents to evacuate. This eruption follows another incident at Mount Marapi in West Sumatra, which occurred on October 27 but resulted in no casualties.
