Volcano erupts on Reykjanes peninsula in Iceland, marking 10th eruption in three years
A volcanic eruption occurred on the Reykjanes peninsula in Iceland on Wednesday, releasing lava and smoke. This is the 10th eruption in three years, confirming the area as one of the world's most active volcanic regions. The recent eruption follows a previous one that ended on September 6, 2024. Authorities had anticipated this event due to significant magma buildup underground. The eruptions are classified as small-scale fissure eruptions, which do not cause major ash disruptions. Nearby towns, including Grindavik, were evacuated last December as a precaution. Barriers have been constructed to protect infrastructure from potential lava flow. The volcano is located about 30 kilometers from Iceland's capital.
