Volkswagen launching cheaper, longer-range EV in months
Britain's favorite car brand has announced an exciting new electric vehicle (EV) for 2026. The upcoming model, named the Volkswagen ID 2, aims to be both affordable and spacious. It will have a range of up to 280 miles, making it a strong competitor in the EV market. The ID 2 will be smaller and cheaper than the ID 3, focusing on maximizing interior space. It features a design that is similar to the Volkswagen Golf and a smaller version of the Polo. Inside, the car has a simple layout with a head-up display and a large infotainment screen. Customers can look forward to two battery options. The smaller 28 kWh battery will offer about 220 miles, while the larger 56 kWh battery can reach up to 280 miles. This is comparable to some rivals in the market, like the MG4 EV. The ID 2 will come with front-wheel drive and two power choices. The 180 bhp option will be powered by the smaller battery, while the larger battery option will offer 223 bhp, capable of reaching 0-62 mph in under 7 seconds. Fast charging is also a feature, with the larger battery recharging from 10 to 80 percent in just 20 minutes. Thomas Schäfer, the brand's chief executive, mentioned that the car would be shown to the public early next year, after a media drive at the end of this year. The starting price for the ID 2 is expected to be under £21,000 for the base model. The premium version with more features, like Matrix LED headlights and massage seats, could reach around £25,000.
