Volkswagen's next Golf becomes electric, renamed ID Golf
Volkswagen is set to launch the next-generation Golf, named the ID Golf, in 2028. This model will feature a new software system developed with US EV brand Rivian and will be fully electric, marking a significant shift from the current combustion-powered Mk8. The ID Golf will be built on Volkswagen's next-gen SSP EV platform, allowing for faster charging and advanced features like autonomous driving. Production of the Mk8 Golf will move to Mexico in 2027, while the ID Golf will be manufactured in Wolfsburg. The ID Golf will join Volkswagen's ID lineup of electric vehicles, which aims to promote sustainable mobility. The ID.1 Everyday, an affordable EV, will be the first to use the new software architecture in 2027.
