Voters concerned about government cuts, share mixed feelings

A recent poll shows that many Americans are worried about government spending cuts made by the Department of Government Efficiency, known as DOGE. Although most voters see the need for budget cuts due to rising national debt, they are concerned about how the cuts are being implemented. The Fox News survey found that nearly 60% believe a large part of government spending is wasteful. However, only a slim majority, 51%, would support significant reductions in government jobs. Many voters disapprove of how the Trump administration is handling wasteful spending, and a significant number worry that the cuts lack proper planning. Opinions vary among political parties. While many Democrats (88%) and Independents (71%) are worried about the cuts, a smaller percentage of Republicans (39%) share those concerns. Voters also expressed mixed feelings about tariffs. Most believe tariffs will raise prices and harm the economy. On the economy, more voters are feeling negative, with 79% rating it poorly. This sentiment is partly due to rising fears of inflation and a possible recession. Expectations for a recession are high, with 70% of voters anticipating one this year. Majorities say inflation is not under control, although this figure has improved slightly. Regarding specific funding, many voters want to see increased support for programs like Social Security and Medicare. Similarly, a significant portion believes the military should receive more funding, while views on humanitarian aid are more divided. Overall, the poll shows that nearly half of voters feel their personal finances have been impacted by the cuts, increasing their concerns. Satisfaction with the country’s direction has slightly improved, but dissatisfaction remains high, especially among Democrats.
