Voters in several states expand abortion rights in recent elections
In recent elections, voters in seven out of ten states where abortion rights were on the ballot chose to expand or protect those rights. Missouri notably voted to enshrine abortion protections in its constitution, overturning a near-total ban. Maryland and Colorado also passed measures to secure abortion access throughout pregnancy. Colorado's amendment repealed a 1984 law that restricted public funding for abortion care. Arizona, Montana, and Nevada codified abortion rights through fetal viability. However, Florida, Nebraska, and South Dakota voted against abortion rights. Florida's proposed amendment failed to meet the required 60% threshold despite majority support. Legal challenges are expected in states that passed abortion rights amendments.
