WA serial paedophile Dennis McKenna to be freed under strict conditions
Serial paedophile Dennis McKenna will be released from prison within weeks after the WA Supreme Court declined to impose a continuing detention order, despite declaring him a High Risk Serious Offender. He will instead be freed under 41 strict conditions. McKenna, who sexually abused boys at a Katanning school boarding hostel in the 1970s and 80s, is serving his second sentence. Justice Marcus Solomon ruled that the potential to re-traumatise victims did not justify indefinite detention, though conditions will ban him from contacting his 29 victims, children, and the town of Katanning. The decision has disappointed Kaye Anderson, whose two sons, both abused by McKenna, died by suicide. McKenna was first jailed in 1991 and again in 2011 for a 15-and-a-half year term, following four separate court cases between 1991 and 2015.
