Wagamon aims to be India's top paragliding center

The International Paragliding Festival in Wagamon, Idukki, wrapped up on March 22. Kerala's Minister for Tourism and Public Works, P.A. Mohamed Riyas, announced plans to develop Wagamon into the country's top paragliding center during the closing ceremony. Mr. Riyas highlighted the rising interest in adventure tourism in Kerala. He mentioned that the government aims to enhance facilities at adventure tourism centers across the state. The vision is to position Kerala as a premier hub for adventure activities. The festival included competitions in six categories, attracting 49 participants from eleven countries. Winners in each category can earn prizes of ₹1.5 lakh for first, ₹1 lakh for second, and ₹50,000 for third place. Key figures in attendance included Peermade MLA Vazhoor Soman and various tourism officials. During the event, Minister Riyas participated in a paragliding experience, flying at an altitude of 3,500 feet. He described the adventure as "an unforgettable experience" after safely landing.
