Wall Street banker loses job offer after arrest
A Wall Street banker has lost a job offer from a top insurance company after being arrested on rape charges. Mark Harris, 38, was accused of raping a 25-year-old woman in Manhattan last month. He was scheduled to begin work at Global Atlantic Financial Group on April 7. Harris signed the contract on March 4, just two days before his arrest. He has denied the accusations and claims they are false. His lawyer, Jason Goldman, stated that Harris has not been indicted yet and expects the case to be dismissed. Prosecutors allege that Harris attacked the woman in her apartment, using aggressive language during the incident. The criminal complaint describes how the victim struggled and pleaded for him to stop. Harris was released on a $150,000 bail after appearing in court. Harris left his previous job at Investec in November. His professional history includes a long career at SMBC, where he held director-level positions. He currently lives in a luxury apartment in Brooklyn. Global Atlantic, owned by KKR, has not commented on the situation. Harris is set to appear in court again on May 1 as the case is presented by the New York County district attorney.
