Walmart addresses shopper's frustration over checkout issues
A Walmart customer expressed frustration after experiencing issues at the self-checkout. The shopper, named Roger, faced a problem while trying to use Walmart's Scan and Go feature. He was unexpectedly prompted to wait for a store associate, which confused him. Roger said that after restarting the Walmart app and his phone, he found himself back at the beginning with an empty cart. Seeking help, he was unhappy with the response from a Walmart employee, who he felt did not assist him. In his anger, he decided to leave the store, abandoning his bags on the floor. Roger criticized the Scan and Go service, claiming it is not worth the $98 annual fee for Walmart+. He announced that he would not return to that Walmart location. A Walmart spokesperson later responded to his complaint, asking for more details but it is unclear if Roger replied. The Scan and Go system is designed to let customers scan and pay for items using their phones, allowing them to skip long lines. However, some shoppers have reported technical issues with the service. Others have voiced concerns about being checked for receipts after using the feature. In comparison to Walmart, the Scan and Go service at Sam's Club has received positive feedback from its users. Costco customers are also urging the retailer to introduce similar technology.
