Walz supports Crawford for Wisconsin Supreme Court election
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz visited Eau Claire on Tuesday to rally support for Susan Crawford in the Wisconsin Supreme Court race. Speaking to a crowd of over 800 people, Walz emphasized the importance of this election, claiming it represents a significant fight for democracy. Walz criticized billionaire Elon Musk, who has donated $13 million to support Crawford's opponent, Brad Schimel. Walz argued that Musk's involvement shows he wants to influence the court for his own benefit, not for the good of democracy. He insisted that many people gather for the love of their country, stating, "We know what’s at stake." During the event at the Pablo Center, Walz also discussed recent successes in Minnesota, including providing free meals for all students. He linked this initiative to improved student performance. He expressed concern about former President Trump's impact on democracy, describing Trump as a threat. Ben Wikler, chairman of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin, highlighted the significance of upcoming elections, as early voting had started. He denounced Schimel's support of an old abortion law and emphasized the importance of protecting the court's current liberal majority. Criticism towards Walz came from Republican figures, including U.S. Rep. Derrick Van Orden, who dismissed Walz's town hall visit as a desperate attempt for relevance. A spokesperson for the National Republican Committee accused Walz of being out of touch with Wisconsin voters. The Supreme Court election is set for April 1, and candidates are preparing for a highly contested race.
