Walz urges Democrats to challenge Trump’s orders
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz spoke in Wisconsin on Tuesday, urging Democratic governors to resist any unconstitutional orders from President Donald Trump. He emphasized the need for Democrats to "push as far as we can" against the current administration. Walz, who was a Democratic vice presidential nominee, made these remarks during a town hall event in Eau Claire, which has a liberal tilt. During his visit, Walz aimed to rally support for Susan Crawford, a Democratic candidate for the state Supreme Court. He is on a tour to highlight Republican representatives who have stopped holding public town halls due to confrontations related to Trump’s policies. In the past election, Trump won Wisconsin by around 29,000 votes. Walz criticized the Democratic campaign’s failure to connect with rural voters, which he believes contributed to their loss in key states. He stated that governors have a duty to challenge orders that they believe are unconstitutional. At the Eau Claire event, some Trump supporters were turned away, which sparked discussions about the event's openness to differing views. Republican Representative Derrick Van Orden condemned Walz's visit as a desperate attempt to regain relevance after a defeat. He claimed voters in the district do not want to embrace policies from neighboring Minnesota. Walz's event focused on engaging with voters, discussing topics like potential cuts to Medicaid and campaigning effectively. He noted that to win back support, Democrats need to offer clear change that resonates with voters' needs. This town hall is part of a larger strategy as Walz prepares for future elections and aims to strengthen the Democratic presence in the region.
