War of the Rohirrim expands on Tolkien's lore with new storylines and characters
Warner Bros. is set to release "War of the Rohirrim," an anime film based on a small part of J.R.R. Tolkien's writings. The film, debuting on December 13, expands on the story of Helm Hammerhand, a king of Rohan, and his conflict with the Dunlendings. The film is set 265 years before "The Two Towers" during a dark period in Middle-earth. It focuses on the rivalry between Helm and Freca, a lord with ties to both Rohan and Dunland. Key characters include Helm's children and Freca's son, Wulf. While the film draws from Tolkien's appendices, it adds significant new material, particularly regarding Helm's daughter, Hèra. Miranda Otto returns as Éowyn to narrate, and Christopher Lee's recordings will feature Saruman.
