Warriors defeat Roosters, end losing streak in Auckland
The Warriors ended their eight-game losing streak against the Sydney Roosters with a 14-6 win in Auckland. This was their first victory over the Roosters since March 2018. The win, however, came at a cost. Star player Roger Tuivasa-Sheck suffered a hamstring injury in the second half. Despite this setback, the Warriors managed to bounce back from a halftime deficit of 6-4. This victory marks their second win in a row after a disappointing start to the season against Canberra. Warriors halves Luke Metcalf and Chanel Harris-Tavita played exceptionally well. Centre Ali Leiataua was also a standout, scoring a try in each half of the match. For the Roosters, players were relieved when Victor Radley passed a head injury assessment. He had previously suffered a concussion and was cleared to play after a brief scare in the game. Unfortunately, hooker Connor Watson was not as lucky. He sustained a serious injury and failed his head injury assessment after being struck in the chin. The Roosters opened the scoring in the 22nd minute with a try from prop Naufahu Whyte. The Warriors responded quickly with a try from Leiataua. The Roosters almost scored again just before half-time but were denied when Mark Nawaqanitawase was out of bounds after a chip-and-chase play. In the second half, Harris-Tavita successfully executed a chip-and-chase to regain possession. Leiataua then scored again ten minutes before the end, securing the victory for the Warriors. This win moved the Warriors to fifth place on the ladder, while the Roosters fell to 14th.
