A 33-year-old owner of a waste-paper mart was arrested on Saturday for allegedly trying to run down police officers. The incident happened last Monday when police were conducting a random check for drunk driving on West of Chord Road. The suspect, Mahadevaswamy Ramachari, reportedly injured head constable Dharanappa and constable Karthik during the encounter. He also damaged their police motorcycle while attempting to escape. When the officers tried to stop his vehicle, Mahadevaswamy drove past the barricades and stopped abruptly. Afterward, when police tried to confront him, he allegedly accelerated his vehicle towards them and fled the scene. As a result, the police filed charges against him that included attempted murder and assault on public servants. Police reviewed CCTV footage from the area to identify Mahadevaswamy's car. Eventually, they tracked him down and made the arrest.
