Water cannons used against Congress protesters in Chandigarh

Police in Chandigarh used water cannons to break up a protest by Congress party members on Friday. The protest was against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government for not providing the promised monthly grant of ₹1,000 to women. The Congress activists, led by their state president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, gathered outside their party office in Sector 15. They demanded that the government pay ₹36,000 in back payments to women for the past three years. As the protest grew, police arrested 25 Congress workers. The heavy police presence indicated rising tensions during the demonstration. Warring accused the AAP government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, of betraying the women of Punjab. He stated that the Congress would keep fighting until the government meets its promises. Warring emphasized the need for immediate payment of the arrears and urged that women should receive ₹1,100 per month moving forward. He criticized the government for ignoring the issues faced by women in the state.
