Water supply restored in North Howrah, Liluah areas

timesofindia.indiatimes.com

Water supply has been restored to north Howrah and parts of Liluah after a three-day shortage. The Howrah Municipal Corporation (HMC) began delivering water on Sunday evening. Earlier that day, 52 water tankers were sent to the affected areas to help. The water crisis began after a pipeline was damaged while workers were repairing the Belgachhia landfill. This incident led to a disruption in water supply for many neighborhoods, including Liluah and parts of Shibpur. Cracks in the pipeline occurred because of the heavy waste at the landfill. Residents have criticized local government for poor management, which has caused repeated problems like this. The HMC even asked the Uttarpara Municipality in Hooghly for additional water support. The collapse at the landfill also harmed some buildings, causing visible cracks. Residents were advised to move to safer locations, and many did so with their belongings. Several electric poles were also affected. The HMC plans to investigate the situation further.
