Wayzata faces Shakopee in Class 4A semifinals

Wayzata and Shakopee are set to meet in the Class 4A semifinals after both teams won their quarterfinal games. Wayzata narrowly defeated Moorhead 61-52 in a tense match at Target Center. The Trojans secured their victory with a strong finish, scoring nine points in the last five minutes. Isaac Olmstead led Wayzata with 18 points. Meanwhile, Shakopee easily advanced by beating Anoka 85-52. Luke Wherley was the standout player, scoring 25 points while adding eight rebounds and seven assists. Shakopee shot an impressive 57% from the field and pulled away early in the game. In Class 3A action, Totino-Grace continued their pursuit of a four-peat championship. They defeated Duluth Denfeld 88-72. Chace Watley and Malachi Hill both scored 23 points for Totino-Grace. They will next face Alexandria Area, who won their quarterfinal against Byron. In Class 2A, the top two seeds also moved on to the semifinals. Albany won convincingly against Pelican Rapids 80-57, with Sam Hondl contributing 16 points. Waseca held off Pequot Lakes 49-45, with Damarius Russell scoring 16 points as well. The semifinals for the respective classes are scheduled for Thursday at Williams Arena.
