Weekly French Market launching in downtown West Dundee
Bensidoun USA is set to launch a new French Market in downtown West Dundee starting this summer. The market will take place every Friday from May 23 to August 22. It will run from 4 to 8 p.m. and will be located near the renovated Pump House. The West Dundee Village Board approved this weekly event, which aims to attract local residents and visitors. Bensidoun USA already runs similar markets in several Chicago area locations like Geneva and Wheaton. This market is unique as it will be the only one held by Bensidoun USA on Fridays in the Chicago area. Maureen Himmel, a member of the village’s events committee, noted that a community survey showed a strong interest in a farmers market, with 78% of respondents expressing this preference. The committee, led by trustees Cheryl Anderley and Dan Wilbrandt, then reached out to Bensidoun USA to make it happen. The market will feature between 18 to 24 vendors offering products such as honey, olive oils, plants, baked goods, jewelry, and crafts. Renting a space at the market will cost businesses $40 and up, with discounts available for West Dundee businesses. The market will also include entertainment and buskers to create a lively atmosphere. Bensidoun USA brings considerable experience, having operated markets in the Chicago and New York areas for 60 years. The market will be in conjunction with the village's "Final Friday" concert series, which starts May 30 with a performance by the band Local Motive. Despite being close to the Downtown Elgin Market, the West Dundee French Market aims to offer a unique European vibe. Organizers hope the market will unite residents and draw tourists to the local area, showcasing West Dundee's businesses and attractions.
