West Aurora support staff to receive significant raises

The West Aurora school board has approved a new five-year contract for support staff in the district. This agreement benefits about 100 employees represented by the West Aurora Office Professionals Union. The contract will take effect on July 1, 2025, and last until June 30, 2030. In the first year, support staff will receive a $2 hourly pay increase and a stipend based on their years of service. For the following two years, hourly wages will increase by 6%. During the last two years of the contract, pay will rise by 2.5% plus half of the Consumer Price Index inflation rate. West Aurora Associate Superintendent Angie Smith praised the teamwork that led to this agreement. Union President Stacy Krisch highlighted the quick negotiation process, which took only three meetings. She credited the preparation of the union's negotiating team for the efficient outcome. Krisch expressed gratitude to the district's negotiation team and the school board for their support. She believes this contract positions West Aurora as a leader for office professionals in the area. Smith also recognized the importance of office staff, noting they are often the first points of contact for students and parents. Overall, the negotiation process was seen as collaborative and proactive, ensuring the support staff receive proper recognition and resources for their roles.
